Saturday Activities at Cacapon

The Cacapon Nature Center is open from 11:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Other outdoor activities include:

Morning on the Mountain (10:00 a.m.) Meet the Park Naturalist at Cacapon Mountain Overlook for this spectacular view, the highest elevation in the eastern panhandle. Join in for a brief history of the park. This road is 4 miles beyond the Nature Center.

Look for the “Bear Necessities.” (11:30 a.m.) Meet at the Nature Center to view a film about bears and learn some interesting facts. (30 minutes)

WV Furbearers (1:00 p.m.)Join us at the Nature Center for a hands-on experience with a variety of wildlife pelts. Much of the wildlife collection at Cacapon Nature Center is from Cordie O. Hudkins family. (20 minutes)

WV Songbirds (2:00 p.m.) Discover some key concepts to help identify common birds. We will be looking at size, songs, & patterns using the Young People’s Series Bird Guide and Checklist. You will be birding in no time! (30 minutes)

Evening Stroll (7:30 p.m.) Wrap up your day with a walk close to the time of sunset! Meet at the Lodge to enjoy the twilight sights and sounds of Cacapon on this evening stroll. (45 minutes)

What’s happening in the park? When you stop by the Nature Center, please be sure to log the “wildlife sightings” you experienced while exploring the park and also check out the “photos from the park” binder featuring flora and fauna as the seasons change here at Cacapon Resort State Park!
