Rafting History of the New River Gorge
There’s a lot of history in the New River Gorge that attracts people to the water you see from Hawks Nest Lodge and the aerial tram. Since 1967, whitewater rafting continues to be one of WV’s leading recreational pursuits – it is an adrenaline rush for the ages.
Join outdoor interpreter and whitewater guide Jon Friend for his engaging presentation “Rafting History of the New River Gorge.” Two presentations are planned: 12:00 p.m. and again at 4:00 p.m. The program is about one hour in length. Look for the nature canopy in the front of Hawks Nest Lodge. Open to the public.
This program is one of many activities during the 2018 Hidden History Weekend, part of the heritage celebrations assembled by the National Park Service.
