Pipestem State Park sits on the east rim of the Bluestone River Gorge, which carves through the plateau to the scenic Bluestone River 1,200 feet below. Visit the Nature Center, which is open Monday 1:00pm -5:00 pm and Tuesday – Sunday, 11:00 am – 5:00 pm except for times when other activities listed below are scheduled. See our exhibits and heritage structures and sit a spell in our West Virginia made rocking chairs and watch the birds. Activities planned for August 4-5, 2021 include:
WEDNESDAY, August 4, 2021
Wild, Wonderful TROUT OF WEST VIRGINIA
Meet Jared at the Nature Center for a short presentation on trout found in our state. YPP
Meet Jared at the Nature Center for a walk to look for bugs, or whatever little critters we might find! It’s outdoor fun for all ages. (1 hour) YPP
THURSDAY, August 5. 2-21
Meet at the Nature Center for a walk along the Dogwood Trail. This relatively easy trail strolls through the woods and passes by an old farm pond before returning to the Nature Center. (1 hour) YPP
Meet Julie at the Nature Center for some moth watching. She will have a black light and white sheet set up to attract moths. Bring a flashlight and don’t forget your phone or camera to capture the moth moments. You may also want to bring a chair or blanket if you have one. In the event of rain this program may have to be cancelled. YPP
YPP stands for Young People for Parks. Kids 6-16 years of age are eligible for a patch and certificate after they attend three programs marked YPP and meet with the naturalist. Contact the Nature Center for more information.
