North Bend Family & Friends Programs

Naturalist Maddy invites you to outdoor activities at North Bend State Park. Take advantage of our fun and properly distanced activities.

Wednesday, September 23, 2020

9:00 a.m. – Insect Investigation
Explore the small world of insects and their kin in a big way with the park naturalist. After learning how to identify these small wonders, use a net to try to catch them and view them up close! We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour) YPP

11:00 a.m. – Animal Puppets
Make your own wildlife friend out of recycled materials you can find anywhere. A great craft for kids of all ages and skill levels. We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour).

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Nature Center Open
Come inside to enjoy a chance to meet some of our wildlife friends. Take a look around and marvel at the mysteries of nature.

4:00 p.m. – Overlook Trail Hike
Take a hike to the overlook of the lake while learning about plants and wildlife along the way. The trail winds through a variety of habitats and large sandstone outcrops. Moderate terrain. We will meet at the Cabin 8 trailhead. (1.5 hours, 1.2 miles) YPP

10:00 a.m. – Tracks and Scat
Who’s been here, who’s been there? Discover all the signs that the critters of North Bend leave behind. How many animal signs will you find during your stay at North Bend? We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour) YPP

12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Nature Center Open
Come inside to enjoy a chance to meet some of our wildlife friends. Take a look around and marvel at the mysteries of nature.

3:00 p.m. – Orienteering
For centuries, compasses were used to find the right path. If you want to learn how to use one too, come to this interesting program. We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour) YPP

5:00 p.m. -Sand Art
Take a break and use your imagination or stencils to create a beautiful work of art out of sand. Sketch out your picture, trace it with glue, and sprinkle it with sand. Viola, sand art! We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour).

Young People for Parks Program (YPP)
This is an Environmental Education Program for children 6 – 16. Children need to attend three YPP activities conducted at North Bend by the naturalist. Children will receive a certificate and a prize. Adults welcomed to attend and support youth interest.

All programs will start on time and will not be canceled due to rain. Lightning will cancel all activities. Children under 6 must have an adult with them to participate. Please bring proper attire to participate.
