Naturalist Maddy invites you to outdoor activities at North Bend State Park. Take advantage of our fun and properly distanced activities.

9:00 a.m. Venom vs. Poison – Leaves of three, let it be.
This is a great way to remember not to touch poison ivy, but what about all those other poisonous plants and venomous animals you may encounter while in the forests of North Bend? We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour) YPP

11:00 a.m. Plant Pounding
Search out your leaves and preserve them on a cloth in this nature themed craft. Pound in designs, colors, and shapes to create your masterpiece. A great souvenir of your time at North Bend! We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour) YPP

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Nature Center Open
Come inside to enjoy a chance to meet some of our wildlife friends. Take a look around and marvel at the mysteries of nature.

4:00 p.m. Southern Railroad Trail Hike
Follow the old railroad grade that snakes its way along the North Fork of the Hughes River while learning about local wildlife and plant species. This trail brings you right through the “north bend” of the river that is the namesake for the park! We will meet at the River Run Campground Check-in Station. (1 hour, 1 mile) YPP

10:00 a.m. Insect Investigation
The insect population is one of the largest of on earth. After learning about how to identify these small wonders, we will journey around with nets in hand to capture a few and check them out with a magnifying glass. We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour) YPP

12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Nature Center Open
Come inside to enjoy a chance to meet some of our wildlife friends. Take a look around and marvel at the mysteries of nature.

3:00 p.m. Orienteering
For centuries, compasses were used to find the right path. If you want to learn how to use one too, come to this interesting program. We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour) YPP

5:00 p.m. Hibbs Cemetery Trail
The Hibbs Family lived centuries before North Bend came into existence but left behind a small family cemetery. Take a look for yourself with the park naturalist as you learn about some of the local plants and wildlife along the way. We will meet at the River Run Campground Check in Station. (1 hour, 1 mile) YPP

Young People for Parks Program (YPP)
This is an Environmental Education Program for children 6 – 16. Children need to attend three YPP activities conducted at North Bend by the naturalist. Children will receive a certificate and a prize. Adults welcomed to attend and support youth interest.

All programs will start on time and will not be canceled due to rain. Lightning will cancel all activities. Children under 6 must have an adult with them to participate. Please bring proper attire to participate.
