Nature-based Activities at Cacapon Resort

July 16 - July 17

Take advantage of nature-based programs and activities at Cacapon Resort State Park. We invite you to join us. All programs and hikes begin at the Nature Center, unless otherwise noted. The nature center is open from 9:15 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. unless posted otherwise.

10:00 a.m. Fishing 101
Meet at the Nature Center, then head out to the lake! Learn how to tie a fishing hook, then cast out! Fishing poles and worms provided (limited amount) or bring your own. (1 hour) YPP

1:00 p.m. Intro to Geocaching
Learn the basics of navigation on a created course. Geocaching is a great way to have fun in WV State Parks! YPP

2:30 p.m. Power of Pollinators
Join the summer naturalist to learn the importance of pollinators and try to find some! YPP

4:00 p.m. Meet and Greet Cacapon
Meet the Park Summer Naturalist at the lodge to answer any general park questions you may have or find out what amazing recreation and nature activities Cacapon has to offer. Welcome to Cacapon Resort State Park!

7:00 p.m. Cacapon Campfire
Join us for marshmallows, songs, and stories!

8:15 p.m. Outdoor Movie
Join us at the park gazebo in picnic area to watch Mulan. Bench seating available or get comfy and bring your camping chairs or blankets.

9:30 a.m. West Virginia Morning Melodies
Join us for a beginner birding hike. Binoculars provided.

11:00 a.m. Turtle Talk
Learn all about the eastern box turtle followed by a fun game. YPP

1:00 p.m. Magnificent Monarchs
Learn all about the life cycle of a monarch butterfly & tour the nature center’s monarch waystation.

2:30 p.m. Constellations & Summer Stars
Learn several constellations in the June sky and get ready for the evening night sky presentation. Make a constellation craft. YPP

7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Cacapon Trivia
Join us on the outside patio of the newly opened North Lodge. Fun trivia & prizes for all ages!

9:00 p.m. Night Skies – GUEST ASTRONOMER
Join local astronomer Kevin Boles, for an evening of gazing at the stars. Meet at the north lodge on outside patio.

YPP – Young People for Parks
YPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated on the weekly program by the YPP logo. Participants will also complete the information on a special YPP brochure. After turning it in to the park’s naturalist, each participant will receive a state park incentive for participating in three specified programs. All ages are welcome!
