Nature-based Activities at Cacapon Resort

Geology! Rocks is a special program this week at Cacapon Resort State Park. Take advantage of nature-based programs and activities. We invite you to join us. All programs and hikes begin at the Nature Center, unless otherwise noted. The nature center is open from 9:15 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. unless posted otherwise.

10:00 a.m. Tai Chi
This class will help increase balance, flexibility, and focus on connection to mind, body, and spirit. Gazebo Area (1 hour)
10:30 a.m. WV Trees
Learn how to identify some common trees, followed by an activity. YPP
1:30 p.m. Power of Pollinators
Join the summer naturalist to learn the importance of pollinators and try to find some! YPP

Learn all about the eastern box turtle followed by an activity. YPP

Join geologist Ken Ashton for a hike on the Piney Ridge Trail to learn all about Cacapon’s rocks! Earn a geology rocks patch.
1:00 p.m. West Virginia State Symbols
Learn some fun facts about the mountain state of West Virginia followed by a coloring activity. Do you know the West Virginia fossil, rock and soil? YPP
3:00 p.m. Ferns of Cacapon
Learn some common WV ferns along the Ridge Trail. 1.5 miles. YPP
YPP – Young People for Parks
YPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated on the weekly program by the YPP logo. Participants will also complete the information on a special YPP brochure. After turning it in to the park’s naturalist, each participant will receive a state park incentive for participating in three specified programs. All ages are welcome!
