Take advantage of nature-based programs and activities at Cacapon Resort State Park. We invite you to join us. All programs and hikes begin at the Nature Center, unless otherwise noted. The nature center is open from 9:15 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. unless posted otherwise.

10:30 a.m. Nature Hike
Let’s explore on the Ridge Trail! 1.5 miles round trip YPP
1:30 p.m. Invasive Plants & Insects
Join the summer naturalist to learn how to identify invasive species and what do if you find one! YPP
3:00 p.m. Cabin Loop Trail
Discover woodpecker habitat along this 1-mile trail. Binoculars provided. YPP

10:00 a.m. Nature/Geology Walk
Join park volunteer and Potomac Valley Master Naturalist to learn about the park’s geology. YPP
1:00 p.m. Awesome O ’Possum
Did you know that these animals are the only marsupials in WV? Come and learn more fun facts followed by a craft. YPP
2:30 p.m. Fox Friends
Find out the differences between grey and red foxes, followed by a craft. YPP

10:00 a.m. Central Trail Hike
Join park volunteer and Potomac Valley Master Naturalist for a 2-mile round trip hike to the Middle Fork Cabins. Meet at Nature Center then caravan to Batt parking.
1:00 p.m. West Virginia State Symbols
Learn some fun facts about the mountain state of West Virginia followed by a coloring activity. YPP
3:00 p.m. Ferns of Cacapon
Learn some common WV ferns, while hiking on the Ridge Trail. 1.5 miles YPP

10:00 a.m. Fishing 101
Meet at the Nature Center, then head out to the lake! Learn how to tie a fishing hook, then cast out! Fishing poles & worms provided (limited amount) or bring your own. (1 hour) YPP
1:00 p.m. West Virginia Trees
Learn how to identify common WV trees using a tree ID guide, followed by a leaf pounding craft. YPP
3:00 p.m. Intro to Geocaching
Learn the basics of navigation on a created course. Geocaching is a great way to have fun in WV State Parks! YPP
4:00 p.m. Meet and Greet Cacapon
Meet the Park Summer Naturalist at the lodge to answer any general park questions you may have or find out what amazing recreation and nature activities Cacapon has to offer. Welcome to Cacapon Resort State Park!
7:00 p.m. Evening Stroll
Join park volunteer and Potomac Valley Master Naturalist for an evening stroll and park orientation starting at the lodge.
8:15 p.m. Outdoor Movie
Join us at the park gazebo in picnic area to watch. Bench seating available or get comfy and bring your lawn chairs or blankets.
YPP – Young People for Parks
YPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated on the weekly program by the YPP logo. Participants will also complete the information on a special YPP brochure. After turning it in to the park’s naturalist, each participant will receive a state park incentive for participating in three specified programs. All ages are welcome!
