Nature-based Activities at Cacapon Resort

Take advantage of nature-based programs and activities at Cacapon Resort State Park. We invite you to join us. All programs and hikes begin at the Nature Center, unless otherwise noted.

10:00 a.m. Black Bear Aware
Learn some fun facts about this amazing animal and how to help keep them safe! YPP

1:00 p.m. Awesome O ’Possum
Learn some fun facts followed by a craft. YPP

2:30 p.m. Fox Friends
Find out the differences between grey and red foxes, followed by a craft. YPP

7:00 p.m. Irish Road Bowling
Join an awesome park volunteer at the nature center for an evening of this fun game of rolling a cannon ball down a course!

10:00 a.m. Fishing 101
Meet at the Nature Center, then head out to the lake! Learn how to tie a fishing hook, then cast out! Fishing poles & worms provided (limited amount) or bring your own. (1 hour) YPP

1:30 p.m Intro to Geocaching
Geocaching is a great way to have fun in WV State Parks! Learn all about this modern-day treasure hunt! YPP

3:00 p.m. Ferns of Cacapon
Learn some common WV ferns, while hiking on the Ridge Trail. 1.5 miles YPP

4:00 p.m. Meet and Greet Cacapon
Meet the Park Summer Naturalist at the lodge to answer any general park questions you may have or find out what amazing recreation and nature activities Cacapon has to offer. Welcome to Cacapon Resort State Park!

7:00 p.m. Cacapon Campfire
Join us for marshmallows, songs, and stories!

8:00 p.m. Outdoor Movie
Join us at the park gazebo in picnic area to watch National Treasure. Bench seating available or get comfy and bring your lawn chair or blanket.

Young People for Parks

YPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated on the weekly program by the YPP logo. Participants will also complete the information on a special YPP brochure. After turning it in to the park’s naturalist, each participant will receive a state park incentive for participating in three specified programs. All ages are welcome!
