Nature-based and outdoor activities planned at Blackwater Falls State Park typically begin at the nature center and are free to attend, unless indicated. With autumn approaching, enjoy getting outdoors.

Nature Center Hours today are from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
9:00 a.m. Birds and Blooms
Join park naturalist, Paulita Cousin, for a stroll along park trails to Pendleton Point Overlook listening and looking for feathered friends and late summer blooms. About 1 mile, 1 hour. YPP
10:00 a.m. Rockin’ on the Trail of Geology
Let’s ramble deeper into the rocks, terrain and perhaps fossils that make Blackwater Falls State Park. Program begins at scenic Pendleton Point overlook then explores a rock and root strewn path with a short but steep grade of less than ½ mile. About 90 minutes. Participants have an opportunity to earn the Geology Rocks Patch! Program is open to the public at no cost. YPP
1:00 p.m. Scavenger Hunt
Pick up a fun list of items to find from the park naturalist. Small novelty prize to winners. About 30 minutes.
2:00 p.m. Herb Greenhouse
Join the park naturalist to hear about herbs while making your own herb garden. Craft fee: $3.00. YPP

Nature Center Hours today are from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
5:00 p.m. Butterfly & Moth Nature Film & Craft
Join the park naturalist, Paulita and watch a film that takes flight with nature’s most charming creatures while painting a pair of cardboard child sized butterfly wings for $3.00 or using watercolor on paper wings to create a butterfly ornament for $2.00 or just enjoy the film. About 1 hour. YPP
7:00 p.m. Disappearing Stars
Discover why the stars are disappearing from our view and ways you can help save the stars.
Great program. Inspired presentation. About 45 minutes. No walking involved. YPP
10:00 p.m. Blue Moon Walk
Join the park naturalist, Paulita, as the full moon lights our path. Explore nature after dark while hearing about some of the animals that welcome the darkness. Flashlights are encouraged for the walk for safety but please leave them in the pocket during the program. Trail may contain some uneven terrain with roots and rocks but mostly along park road. About 1 hour. YPP

11:00 a.m. First Snow in the Woods & Fingerpainting
Meet Brittany at the nature center and a film about a worried scarecrow in a pumpkin patch as he watches animals prepare for winter while painting with your fingers. About 35 minutes. YPP
1:00 p.m. The Private Life of Deer Film
This film is about the world of deer that reveals a complex society of smart, adaptable creatures, with impressive skills, senses and family lives. Visit the nature center and take in a nature film. About 1 hour. YPP
