Nature Activities

Pipestem Resort State Park sits on the east rim of the Bluestone River Gorge, which carves through the plateau to the scenic Bluestone River 1,200 feet below. You are invited to visit us at the Nature Center which is open on Friday and Saturday 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 pm.

Join Naturalist Julie McQuade for these nature-based activities meeting at the park nature center.

Friday, February 28
11:00 a.m. Barney Law Orchard Walk
Enjoy the late morning on a short hike to the home site and orchard of former park resident, Barney Law. (1 hour)

Saturday, February 29
11:00 a.m. Dogwood Hike
Take a walk along the Dogwood Trail with the park naturalist. This relatively easy trail strolls through the woods and passes by an old farm pond before returning to the Nature Center. (1 hour)

3:00 p.m. Nature Hunt
Get your interesting list of objects in to look for in nature. A prize will be awarded for finding them all. (1/2 – 1 hour)

Sunday, March 1
10:00 a.m. Bird Walk
It’s a morning walk to find some of our feathered friends. There will be a limited number of binoculars to use so bring your own if you have them. All skill levels welcome. (1 hour)

11:00 a.m. Bird Count
Observe and count the birds at the feeders with Julie. We will count the highest number of each species seen at a time. Data collected will be submitted to Project FeederWatch for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
