Monarch Migration Weekend
Monarch Migration Weekend at Cacapon Resort State Park is a simple way to enjoy viewing the many monarchs as they stop to fuel up on their long journey southward to Mexico. Cacapon’s many acres of wildflower gardens is an invitation to these insects and you!
Enjoy a weekend of special activities around these amazing monarchs and enjoy several naturalist guided hikes around the meadows. The Monarch is WVs state butterfly.
Friday, September 13: Monarch Study 9-12PM.
Join in for a citizen scientist survey to help monitor a pollinator field here at Cacapon for Monarch Joint Venture. The information on flowering plants and monarch counts help toward a nation wide effort to learn more about monarch habitat. All volunteers and participants will earn a Cacapon Monarch Scout patch. The activity is outdoors. Plan on a couple of hours, be counted and make a difference. Youth programs and activities in afternoon at nature center.
Saturday, September 14: Monarchs in the Meadow
Three tours planned. 9:30AM, 11:30PM, & 2:00PM. Tours start at Cacapon Lodge. Look for monarchs in our pollinator fields Other activities held at nature center-butterfly crafts, youth programs & films.
