Light, Luminaries and Hikes

Saturday in the park at Blackwater Falls State Park offers several activities to attend. The Nature Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wear your mask and visit our exhibits.

10:00 a.m. Light Pollution and solution-YOU!
Save the dark! Visitors may observe the striking beauty of the night sky often displaying the Milky Way from horizon to horizon due to incredibly dark skies at Blackwater Falls State Park. Join the park naturalist, Paulita, to enjoy hearing how this natural resource is in jeopardy worldwide, how light pollution impacts wildlife and humans, as well as, how you can save the dark! About 1 hour. YPP.

11:00 a.m. Luminary Bag Craft
Transform a plain white bag into a luminary. Includes battery operated candle. Craft Fee: $3.00

1:00 p.m. Naturalist Loop Walk
Join the park naturalist, Paulita, at the trailhead of Elakala near Blackwater Falls Lodge for an interpretive stroll along three of Blackwater’s trails. About 2 miles, 90 minutes. YPP

2:30 p.m. Rain Stick Craft and Weather Film
Make a rainstick at the nature center then watch a short film that takes you on a whirlwind tour of Earth’s turbulent atmosphere. About 45 minutes. Craft fee: $3.00 YPP
