July 4th Weekend at Cacapon

Take advantage of nature-based programs and activities at Cacapon Resort State Park. We invite you to join us. All programs and hikes begin at the Nature Center, unless otherwise noted. The nature center is open from 9:15 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. unless posted otherwise.

Saturday, July 3

9:30 a.m. Beginner Birding Hike
Join us for a beginner birding hike, learning some songbirds by sight and sound. Binoculars provided. YPP

11:00 a.m. Power of Pollinators
Join the summer naturalist to learn the importance of pollinators and try to find some! YPP

1:30 p.m. Cacapon Tie-Dye
Create a patriotic red, white, and blue tie-dye shirt. $10 Cacapon shirts for sale at nature center.

3:00 p.m. Water Balloon Challenge
Join us for a fun team relay challenge!

3:30 p.m. Beads & Bracelets
Make your own holiday bracelets!

7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Cacapon Trivia
Join us on the outside patio of the newly opened North Lodge. Fun trivia & prizes for all ages!

9:00 p.m. Glowstick Walk
Glowstick necklaces & bracelets provided for a fun night stroll along the golf course!

9:30 a.m. Black Bear Aware
Learn all about the WV state animal & how to help protect them. Have you even seen a bear skull, tracks, or pelt?

11:00 a.m. Turtle Talk
Learn all about the eastern box turtle followed by a fun game. YPP

1:00 p.m. Park Orientation & History
Join the park naturalist at Berkeley Springs State Park in the picnic area near the warm springs. Drop by anytime from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. to look at pictures of park through the years.

3:00 p.m. Beginner Tree ID Walk.
Trees are great! Come learn different species at Cacapon or maybe in your backyard.

10:00 a.m. Tai Chi
This class will help increase balance, flexibility, and focus on connection to mind, body, & spirit. Gazebo Area (1 hour)

10:30 a.m. WV Trees
Learn how to identify some common trees, followed by an activity. YPP

1:30 p.m. Power of Pollinators
Join the summer naturalist to learn the importance of pollinators and try to find some! YPP

3:00 p.m. Turtle Talk
Learn all about the eastern box turtle followed by an activity.

YPP – Young People for Parks

YPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated on the weekly program by the YPP logo. Participants will also complete the information on a special YPP brochure. After turning it in to the park’s naturalist, each participant will receive a state park incentive for participating in three specified programs. All ages are welcome!
