Irish Road Bowling
One of the closer events to Pittsburgh and Washington D.C., Blackwater Falls is WV’s best known landmark in a state famous for its scenery. A 28 ounce iron and steel cannonball the size of a tennis ball, a bowl or bullet, is hurled down the loop around cabins 27-39, Trading Post, Nature Center, Campground and Pendleton Point Overlook. The player or team with the fewest shots to the finish line is the winner. No experience necessary. $5 security deposit fee for use of bowl.
Irish Road Bowling can be traced back to the 1600s. One story is that Dutch soldiers brought it when William of Orange came to Ireland in 1689.
