10:00 a.m. VERY FISHY
Learn the parts of a fish, fold an origami fish to take home, then feed the baby trout in our trout rearing pond. (YPP) Meet park naturalist in Old Pavilion.
1:00 p.m. DRAGONFLIES
As you learn about these amazing fighter jets of the insect world and their many attributes, you may color one to take home & hang up in your room. (YPP) Windy Gap Schoolyard or Old Pavilion if rainy.
3:00 p.m. NATURE CRAFT – PINECONE BIRDFEEDERS
Here’s one for the birds for you to make & take home and hang outside. Meet in Balli Shelter, just past the Windy Gap Schoolyard.

11:00 a.m. SNAKES!
Learn to identify the only 2 venomous snakes in WV, see authentic replicas of the Copperhead & Eastern Rattlesnake, and learn how helpful all our reptiles can be. (YPP) Windy Gap Yard
1:00 p.m. BUTTERFLIES & MOTHS
Learn the subtle differences between these two flying insects. Color one to take home (YPP) Windy Gap Schoolyard or Balli Shelter if rainy.
9:00 p.m. NIGHT HIKE
Meet the naturalist at Carpenter Pavilion to explore why nocturnal animals can see at night and humans are not so adept. We do several experiments to learn about rods & cones in our eyes and how our other senses take over when vision is impaired. (YPP)

10:00 a.m. TREE ID WALK
Meet the naturalist on office porch and take a stroll around the building to learn a few of our many Holly River trees by leaf shape & bark. Make a rubbing of your favorites. (YPP)
All Naturalist Programs are FREE to everyone! YPP (Young People for Parks) encourages YOUTH of ages 6 – 16 to go outdoors and explore nature in our state parks.
Holly River State Park is a special place to visit. Please join us for these programs and activities that are open to the public and free to attend.
