Hidden History: Hawks Nest and the CCC
Hawks Nest and the park’s relationship to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) is the focus of a 1-mile walk over the course of an hour and a half. Meet at the field beside the trading post and picnic shelter at the Historic Area (also known as the lower park) at 1:00 p.m. There is adequate parking. The guide will help you explore how today’s park renovations are preserving this historic Civilian Conservation Corps project, the overlook of the New River Gorge, museum and more.
