Harvest Day

mountainrailwv.com. Harvest Day activities will be in the big parking lot below the Cass Company Store from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Event is free and open to the public. A list of activities, listed by location, is provided below.

On the River Bank by the Parking lot

Ye Olde Blacksmith Shoppe Blacksmithing demonstrations Sister Sue’s Jams and Jellies Producers of the finest jams and jellies you will ever eat. All natural, all fresh from the local orchards. Apple Cider Try our pressed apple cider made by the men’s club! Operation Life Saver Travel Safety display truck and safety information. Learn about railroad safety for cars, trucks & pedestrians. LOOK, LISTEN, LIVE! AMMAR Rescue Dogs Appalachian Mountain Man-Trailing and Rescue. Meet Sandy Weik to learn more about search and rescue bloodhounds and rescue pets! Mums Sale Grown locally by Dave Mclaughlin Frostmore Farms Pure organic West Virginia Maple Syrup by our local maple syrup maker Eddy Eagle Eddy Eagle will be making an appearance at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Catch him for a photo op! Smokey Bear Don’t miss your chance to get a photo with Smokey at 10:30 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. Corn Shelling Come check out our corn sheller and try your hand at taking the corn off the cob! Ben Dickens The first park superintendent of Cass Scenic Railroad. Meet Ben and get a copy of his book and his autograph too!

At the Picnic Pavilion

Field Games Games include: egg toss, egg & spoon race, sack race, pumpkin ring toss, hula hoop contest, doughnut eating contest and Oreo eating contest. 2:30-3:30 p.m. Kid’s Korner Will have various coloring sheets, bubbles and more kid friendly activities! Hay Rides These complimentary hay rides will depart from the big parking lot at 10 and 11:30 a.m., and 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m.

One the Porch of the Cass Company Store

Loarine Moore Dulcimer music and instruction. Listen to her play dulcimer and learn a little too! Cheat Mountain Express Band This local band will be playing 4-6 p.m. Cass Volunteer Fire Department Get your blood pressure checked and meet the folks who volunteer at this station. Public service at its finest.

From the Cass Visitor Center

Walking Tours Of the Historic Town of Cass Tours start in front of the visitor center by the flag pole at noon and 4 p.m. (30-45 minutes) Glow Walk Meet at the Cass Visitor Center for a fun evening walk around the town of Cass! Starts at 8 p.m. First to show up get complimentary glow sticks (while supplies last). Feel free to bring your own or purchase one from the Cass Company Store (store closes at 8:00 p.m.).

At the Cass Community Center

A 50’s Dance Come dance 6-10 p.m. Dress the era if you like! Prizes will be given out to those who dress the most authentic. Open and welcome to any and all.


Cass Historic Theater Shows at 10 and 11 a.m., and 1 and 5 p.m. See a 20-minute presentation about the history of Cass and a diorama of the town. located in the large metal building behind the depot Locomotive Shop Tours The 10 a.m. tour is a behind the scenes look of the railroad operations and see the trains up close. Join us at the end of the big parking lot at the picnic pavilion to take a walking tour of the locomotive shop. (40 minutes) Cass Historical Museum Open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Take a walk back through time in our historical museum and see some of the tools and clothing the loggers use to wear along with photographs and more. Last Run Restaurant The restaurant is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and serves great home-cooked food, desserts and ice cream. Leatherbark Ford Artisan’s Co-op Gallery Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Come see the galleries feature demonstrations and West Virginia made crafts for purchase.  Amazing artisans from Pocahontas County.]]>
