The Great Backyard Bird Count at Pipestem

Fly like the birds to Pipestem Resort State Park for the Great Backyard Bird Count! This free, fun and easy event can be enjoyed by bird watchers of all ages and skill levels, and helps create a record of bird populations in West Virginia.

Join park naturalist Julie McQuade at the park’s nature center at 10:30 a.m. Bring binoculars if possible, but there are some available at the park for those who don’t have any. Participants are asked to count birds for at least 15 minutes, or longer if they wish. Data collected will be submitted to Project FeederWatch for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and to the West Virginia Winter Bird Count for the WV Wildlife Diversity Program. Activity duration is four hours, but visitors are welcom anytime during the count.

The Nature Center will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday service is at 8:30 a.m. in the Dogwood Room at McKeever Lodge.
