Gabriel Arthur. History Alive!

August 2, 2018 @ 9:01 pm

Gabriel Arthur penetrates the Trans-Allegheny region in 1674. Known as the first European to enter the Kanawha River Valley and Ohio River Valley in southern WV, Gabe worked for his master, Abraham Wood, to expand the beaver fur trade westward of the Appalachian Mountains. The story of his encounters with the native inhabitants is full of inter-tribal political intrigue, near-death experiences, and divine deliverance. Hear a story you have never heard before, and you will likely not soon forget. Open to the public without fee. Join us at 7:00 p.m. at Shelter Number 5 at Kanawha State Forest as Doug Wood portrays Gabriel Arthur. History Alive! is made possible by WV Humanities Council.
