Fun Activities at Cacapon
Activities are planned each day at Cacapon in addition to swimming, golf, dining, and horseback riding. Have fun participating or attending these activities that meet at the nature center and are free, unless indicated otherwise.
Thursday, June 13, 2019
10:30 a.m. WV Song Birds — Learn to identify common birds by sight & sound. Use the Young People’s Series Bird guide & checklist. Followed by a hike & craft (1 hour) YPP
1:30 p.m. WV Trees — Learn some common WV trees and using the Young People’s Series guide to trees checklist. Let’s take a hike, then do a craft. (1.5 hours) YPP
3:30 p.m. Eyewitness Bird Video — Enjoy a short film at the nature center. (30 minutes)
4:00 p.m. Bird Bingo — Enjoy this fun game while learning about a variety of birds with fun facts and pictures on every card! (30 minutes)
Friday, June 14
10:00 a.m. Fishing 101 — Meet at the Nature Center, then let’s head out to the lake! We will learn more about lake habitat. Fishing poles and bait will be available for the first five participants or bring your own! Adult participants require a fishing license. (1 hour) YPP
1:00 p.m. WV Wildlife & Molds — Join us in learning about WV wildlife, looking at pelts, skulls, tracks & scat. Make a take home mold of an animal track of your choosing! (1 hour) YPP
4:00 p.m. Meet and Greet Cacapon — Meet the Naturalist in the lounge of the lodge to answer any general park questions you may have or find out what amazing recreation and nature activities Cacapon has to offer. Welcome to Cacapon Resort State Park! (1 hour)
8:00 p.m. Movie on the Lawn — Enjoy an outdoor movie on the lawn outside the lodge. Bring a blanket! The Jungle Book
Glow Stick Walk (After Movie) Meet at the lodge to walk the golf course. Let’s light up the night with multi-colored glow sticks, necklaces, & bracelets! First come, first serve.
Saturday, June 15
Nature Center Open: 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
11:00 a.m. Discovery Walk — So much to discover! Use the Young People’s Series Wildlife Guide & Checklist to find birds, mammals, reptiles & amphibians! (1 hour) YPP
2:30 p.m. Cacapon Tie-Dye — Join us at the Nature Center for a fun afternoon of tie-dying! Make this a State Park tradition & take home your own park tie-dye T-shirt! (1 hour) YPP State Park T-shirts sold at Nature Center $10.00 will cover T-shirt, dye and instruction.
7:30 p.m. Cacapon Campfire — What a great way to spend your evening in the park! Meet at the campfire circle beside the Nature Center for a marshmallow roastin’ good time by the fire. You bring the marshmallows and we’ll provide the sticks. (1 hour)
9:00 p.m. Night Hike — Let’s discover our night vision while listening for night sounds…..owls, frogs…what will we hear? Bring flashlight. (1 hour) YPP
What is Young People for Parks (YPP)? — YPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated on the weekly program by the YPP logo. Participants will also complete the information on a special YPP brochure. After turning it in to the park’s naturalist, each participant will receive a state park incentive for participating in three specified programs. All ages are welcome!
