Full Hunter’s Moon Hike: Cass

October 8, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Hike by the light of a full moon at Cass on October 8, 2022.

The “Hunter’s Moon” hike at Cass Scenic Railroad begins from the visitors center (to the left of the Company Store facing the store) at 7:30 p.m. The evening walk is about three miles round trip with a slight grade, but mostly flat walking. Please wear sturdy footwear and clothing for cooler evenings. Hike will be led by Park Superintendent Marshall Markley. The hike is open to the public and fee free.

October’s full moon is known as the Hunter’s Moon according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. This full moon name is attributed to Native Americans recognizing this bright Moon for obvious reasons. The leaves are falling from trees, the deer are fattened, and it’s time to begin storing up meat for the long winter ahead. Because the fields were traditionally reaped in late September or early October, hunters could easily see fox and other animals that come out to glean from the fallen grains.
