Firefly Evening & Hike

July 12, 2019 @ 9:01 pm

Why do lightning bugs flash? Are Lightning Bugs and Fireflies the same insect? As evening turns to night, flashes are signals to each other and not all flashes mean the same thing. Fireflies are nature’s micro-lanterns. They are not flies, but are members of a particular family of the Beetle Order. The Firefly Family is technically known as the Lampyridae.

Meet Kailey Price at the Visitors Center in the Town of Cass at 7:30 p.m. for a firefly craft. Then around 8:30 p.m. head out for short walk with Kailey on the Greenbrier River Trail to the old extract plant (it is mostly field area) to look for these ‘sky writing beetles’ known as lightning bugs.
