Elk in West Virginia: The Return is Happening
Elk were reintroduced to southern West Virginia in late 2016. As the herd grows, hunters and tourists will begin to see this once plentiful big game animal return to the Mountain State. West Virginia Division of Natural Resources biologist Randy Kelley is the lead manager of the project, and will give a presentation about the Elk Management Program at Pipestem Resort State Park on Sunday, Oct. 15. Program starts at 3 p.m. Kelley will share video highlights of the elk release. His expertise in answering questions about necessary habitat, elk attributes and the long-term plans and goals of elk restoration is entertaining and educational. The program is free to attend and open to the public. Youth and adults welcomed. Register for a doorprize.
