Douglas Falls/Blackwater Canyon

Douglas Falls/Blackwater Canyon hike begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Canaan Valley Lodge. The guided, 10-mile walk journeys from the abandoned coke ovens, Douglas Falls, junctions of North Fork Blackwater River and the main river, across from Lindy Point, down the canyon through mixed hardwood forest. The average walking time is approximately four hours. The trail is easy and very rural, but once you have started there is no way out. Elevation changes are approximately 1,290 feet. Hiking boots or cross-country walking shoes are recommended. Some trail sections are wet.

Registration is $15 for adults and $10 for children (6-12). Pre-registration is recommended or register Friday, September 6, 12:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.in the Beech Club, Canaan Valley Resort Main Lodge.

A preregistration form is posted on www.canaanresort.com/events or contact David Vance at [email protected] or call 304-866-2215.
