Discover Wild Things Weekend

There is nothing greater than discovering wildlife in wintry outdoors. Have fun with Naturalist Valerie Chaney and attend these activities:

Friday, March 1, 2019
10:30 a.m. Woodpecker Wow! — Meet at the Nature Center to learn all about the variety of woodpeckers here and their amazing adaptations. Learn to identify them by sight and sound. Color your own field guide from Peterson Field Guide Coloring Book! (1 hour)

11:30 a.m. Nature Walk — Meet at the Nature Center for a short hike on the Ridge trail. (Easy .5 mile/45 minutes)

2:30 p.m. Bear Necessities — Join us at the Nature Center for an Eye Witness video on bears. Learn about our native black bear and other species like the grizzly, panda, & polar bear. (30 minutes)

Saturday, March 2, 2019
9:30 a.m. Central Trail Hike — Meet the Naturalist at Batt Picnic Shelter to hike a portion of the Central Trail that leads through the Middle Fork Cabin area. This easy to moderate hike crosses mountain streams and provides many views. (2 miles)

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. WV Winter Coats — Drop by the Nature Center during this time for a hands-on experience with wildlife pelts (bobcat, coyote, fox, & beaver).

2:00 p.m. Bear Necessities — Meet at the Nature Center for an Eye Witness video on bears. Learn about our native black bear and other species like the grizzly, panda, & polar bear. (30 minutes)

3:00 p.m. History Stroll — Meet at the Nature Center for a walk around Cacapon’s Lake to learn about Camp Morgan (1934-1941) and the impact from the Civilian Conservation Corps. (45 minutes)
