Casting Call! Learn How to Fish
Casting Call is a new program at Watoga State Park. If you have wanted to learn how to fish, but don’t know where to start, look no further. This workshop is open to all ages who have never been fishing. It’s a beginners program for any age of beginner, man, woman or child. We’ll have equipment or you can bring equipment you’ve had for years, but are just looking for a little “get started” help.
You’ll learn about knots, rods and reels, how to cast, equipment needs, shore fishing, and most importantly, how to land a fish. “Casting Call” is scheduled on free fishing weekend, so adults and youth 15 and older wanting to learn how to fish will not be required to purchase a fishing license to participate.
Instructors are Chris Bartley and volunteers of Watoga State Park with special guest instructors Bret and Leighann Preston. Preston retired, was WVDNRs Assistant Chief of Wildlife, in charge of fisheries. Casting Call includes information from Take Me Fishing.Org and other organizations encouraging all ages to go fishing or to take someone fishing.
