Car Show and More at North Bend

Fun outside and at the nature center continues at North Bend State Park. Take advantage of these Saturday activities hosted by Naturalist Maddie Shaffer for families, friends or individuals.

9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Ritchie County Car Club’s 12th Annual Fall Classic
Join the Ritchie County Car Club for a Masquerade Party where there is a special prize for Best Dressed Person or Vehicle. Even if you don’t have a car, come out and help us pick out the best cars of the day. There will be tee-shirts and 50/50 raffle tickets for sale as well as great music. There will be plenty of good food, so come early for breakfast and stay for lunch! This event will be at Basecamp and has no cost to view the vehicles.

10:00 a.m.
Gobble, Cluck, Purr, and Yelp
Answer the call of the Wild Turkey and make your own real working turkey call in this educational and crafty program. Did you know that during our Nation’s founding, this bird was in competition with the Bald Eagle to the symbol of our country, or that every Thanksgiving a turkey is given a Presidential Pardon? Learn these and other fascinating facts about one of the most common, but seldom seen birds of our forests. We will meet in the Nature Center. (1 hour) YPP

12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Nature Center Open
Come inside to enjoy a chance to meet some of our wildlife friends. Take a look around and marvel at the mysteries of nature.

3:00 p.m.
Fishing Derby
Bring your pole and we’ll supply the bait as you try your luck catching the Bluegill, Channel Catfish, and Bass that call the River Run Pond home. Anglers up to 14 years old are welcome to participate in this catch and release derby. We will meet at the pond by River Run Campground. (1 hour)

5:00 p.m.
Southern Railroad Trail Hike
Follow the old railroad grade that snakes its way along the North Fork of the Hughes River while learning about local wildlife and plant species. This trail brings you right through the “north bend” in the river that is the namesake for park! A smooth trail for hikers of all skill levels. We will meet at the River Run Campground Check in Station. (1 hour, 1 mile)
