Cacapon Outdoor Activities

When visiting Cacapon, enjoy these programs and experiences during your visit or stay. All programs and activities begin at the Campfire Circle near the Nature Center unless noted**. The Nature Center is typically open from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily. Most programs are one hour in length.

Friday, June 19

10:30 a.m. Wildflower Meadow Walk
Learn all about the park’s native wildflowers and pollinators. YPP

1:30 p.m. Stream Study
Discover what makes a stream healthy and what unlikely critters may be hiding in plain sight! Meet at Nature Center. You may want to bring shoes to get wet. (1 hour) YPP

3:00 p.m. Magnificent Monarchs
Let’s explore the milkweed flowers and see what we find. Learn about the amazing monarchs! (1 hour) YPP

7:00 p.m. Evening Hike on the Laurel Trail
*Meet at the Nature Center. Takes in some evening views and sounds. 2 miles

Saturday, June 20
West Virginia Day

10:30 a.m. Wildflowers Blue & Gold
Join a guided walk of the park’s native meadows. YPP

1:30 p.m. WV Black Bear
Learn some fun facts about the WV’s State Mammal. YPP

3:00 p.m. WV Monarch Butterfly
Did you know WV has a state insect and butterfly? YPP

7:30 p.m. Cacapon Campfire & WV Trivia
What a great way to spend your evening in the park! Meet at the campfire circle beside the Nature Center for a marshmallow roastin’ good time by the fire. You bring the marshmallows and we’ll provide the sticks.

9:00 p.m. Glow sticks & Fireflies
Let’s light up the night as we walk and discover night sounds and fireflies.

Sunday, June 21

9:30 a.m. WV Morning Melodies
Meet at the Nature Center for a short hike. Let’s learn who is making all that noise! (1 hour) YPP

11:00 a.m. Stream Study
Discover what makes a stream healthy and what unlikely critters may be hiding in plain sight! Meet at Nature Center. You may want to bring shoes to get wet. (1 hour) YPP

1:00 p.m. Berkeley Springs State Park Walking Tour
Meet at the Park Gazebo to join the park naturalist on a stroll through the park and surrounding areas.

2:30 p.m. Knot-Tying 101
Learn how to tie three common knots followed by activity. YPP

3:30 p.m. Ridge Trail Ramble
Let’s take a hike and discover some what’s in bloom and take in a great view! YPP

Monday, June 22

10:00 a.m. Tai Chi
This class will help increase balance, flexibility, and focus on connection to mind, body, & spirit. Gazebo Area (1 hour)

10:30 a.m. Discovery Walk
So much to discover! Use the Young People’s Series Wildlife Guide & Checklist to find birds, mammals, reptiles & amphibians! YPP

1:30 p.m. Stream Study
Discover what makes a stream healthy and what unlikely critters may be hiding in plain sight! Meet at Nature Center. You may want to bring shoes to get wet. (1 hour) YPP

3:30 p.m. Box Turtle Game
Learn how you can help save the eastern box turtles while playing a fun game! Learn about WVDNR Box Turtle Census. Help WV count and report. Be a citizen scientist.

Nature Center operations and programs are following recommended social distancing guidelines established by the governor of 6’ apart and maximum gathering of 25. Programs will be first come, first served. Let’s all have a fun & safe summer together!
