Cacapon Outdoor Activities

When visiting Cacapon, enjoy these programs and experiences during your visit or stay. All programs and activities begin at the Campfire Circle near the Nature Center unless noted**. The Nature Center is typically open from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily. Most programs are one hour in length and begin at the nature center or campfire circle. Activity flier is posted at the nature center.

10:00 a.m. Ridge Trail Ramble
Let’s take a hike and discover some what’s in bloom and take in a great view! (1 hour) YPP

1:30 p.m. Stream Study
Discover what makes a stream healthy and what unlikely critters may be hiding in plain sight! Meet at Nature Center. You may want to bring shoes to get wet. YPP

3:30 p.m. Magnificent Monarchs
Let’s explore the milkweed flowers and see what we find. Learn about the amazing monarchs! (1 hour) YPP

7:00 p.m. Evening Hike on the Laurel Trail
*Meet at the Nature Center. Take in some evening views and sounds on this 2.5 mile hike. Enjoy the views from mountain scenery to views of the upper reservoir for a nice peaceful way to end the day.

11:00 a.m. All About Bees
Join a free presentation by David Martz, owner of Double D’s Bees, and learn all about bee keeping, bee products, and see a live beehive!

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Ladies Mountain Bike Clinic
The WV Interscholastic Cycling League is hosting a GRiT event at the Nature Center Pavilion to encourage and promote youth and adult women to learn all about mountain biking and provide a clinic.

1:30 p.m. What’s the Buzz All About
Take a walk into a beautiful wildflower field and take a closer look at honey bees at work! YPP

7:00 p.m. Irish Road Bowling
Join in this fun competitive game of rolling a cannon ball around a course & see what the fun is all about. Who will be the winner?

8:30 p.m. Outdoor Movie Night
Join us at the gazebo in the picnic area. Grab a bench or bring a blanket or chair!

Young People for Parks
YPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated on the weekly program by the YPP logo. Participants will also complete the information on a special YPP brochure. After turning it in to the park’s naturalist, each participant will receive a state park incentive for participating in three specified programs. All ages are welcome!

Nature Center operations and programs are following recommended social distancing guidelines established by the governor of 6’ apart and maximum gathering of 25. Programs will be first come, first served. Please wear masks when indoors. Let’s all have a fun & safe summer together!
