Cacapon Outdoor Activities

When visiting Cacapon, enjoy these programs and experiences during your visit or stay. All programs and activities begin at the Campfire Circle near the Nature Center unless noted**. The Nature Center is typically open from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily. Most programs are one hour in length and begin at the nature center or campfire circle. Activity flier is posted at the nature center.

Learn how you can help save the eastern box turtles while playing a fun game! YPP

Let’s take a hike and discover what’s in bloom and take in a great view! (1 hour) YPP

3:30 p.m. Magnificent Monarchs
Let’s explore the milkweed flowers and see what we find. Learn about the amazing monarchs! (30 minutes) YPP

7:30 p.m. WV Geology Presentation
Free presentation at the nature center by Ken Ashton with the West Virginia Geological & Economic survey on WV geology. All ages welcome! Earn a geology rocks patch.

10:00 a.m. Geology Rocks Hike
Hike with Ken Ashton with the WVGES (West Virginia Geological & Economic Survey) on the Piney Ridge Trail. Earn a Geology Rocks patch! * Meet at the Nature Center.

1:30 p.m. Wildflower Meadow Walk
Learn all about the park’s native wildflowers and pollinators. YPP

Young People for Parks
YPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated on the weekly program by the YPP logo. Participants will also complete the information on a special YPP brochure. After turning it into the park’s naturalist, each participant will receive a state park incentive for participating in three specified programs. All ages are welcome!

Nature Center operations and programs are following recommended social distancing guidelines established by the governor of 6’ apart and maximum gathering of 25. Programs will be first come, first served. Please wear masks when indoors. Let’s all have a fun & safe summer together!
