Bluestone State Park Weekend Activities

Bluestone State Park invites you to enjoy these outdoor activities Friday, July 23 through Sunday, July 25, 2021. There is no fee to participate, unless indicated for materials. All ages are welcome to attend.

FRIDAY, July 23, 2021
2:30p.m. NATURE HIKE
Join the naturalist in front of the Bluestone State Park activities building for a stroll along the Turnpike and Cabin trails for an easy hike. Length 1.5 miles Long pants and closed toed shoes recommended. *ypp

4:00-6:00 p.m.
SPOON CARVING and REGIONAL HISTORY
Meet at the shelter behind the Bluestone State Park activities building to learn about local history and some basic wood craft as the naturalist demonstrates how settlers would create traditional dinnerware. *ypp

6:00 p.m.
PRIMITIVE FIRE STARTING
Ever wonder about how to start a fire without a lighter or match? Come to the shelter behind the activities building to learn the basics of flint and steel fire starting as we light the weekly campfire. *ypp

7:00-9:00 p.m.
WEEKLY CAMPFIRE
We will continue the evening at the shelter behind the Bluestone State Park activities building with a relaxing campfire. Come to relax, swap stories, watch the evening animals, or learn about the basics of campfire cooking.

9:00 -10:00 p.m.
INTRODUCTION TO ASTRONOMY
Finish the night in the field behind the activities building with an introduction to astronomy and telescopes. No experience needed. Plan to learn basic constellation, astronomy and use of telescopes. *ypp

SATURDAY, July 24, 2021
1:30 p.m.
COMPASS NAVIGATION
Meet Naturalist Jonathan at the Bluestone State Park office to learn the basics of compass navigation. Old school gps at its finest. *ypp

2:00 p.m
BOUNDARY TRAIL NATURE HIKE
Join the naturalist at the activities building to embark on a nature hike along the Boundary Trail and back along the Big Pine and Turnpike Trails. Length 4.5 miles with moderate difficulty. Long pants and closed toed shoes are strongly recommended.

6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
TIE DYE
Behind the Bluestone State Park activities building is the place to create a one of a kind tie dye tee shirt. Park shirts are $10 or bring your own for $5 exact change taken on site or you may pay beforehand at the office.

8:00 – 10:00 p.m.
MOTH WATCH
Naturalist Jonathan will meet folks behind the activities building to watch and learn about our nighttime friend the moth. *ypp

SUNDAY July 25, 2021
Noon
CANDLE MAKING
Meet at the Meador Campground bath house to create a historic dip candle and learn about primitive lighting methods. Candles are $1, exact change accepted on site or prepay at the Bluestone State Park office. Fee covers materials. *ypp

1:00 p.m.
STREAM WALK
We meet at the office to take a trip to the creek to see what organisms we can find and learn about. Expect to have wet or muddy feet. *ypp

3:30 p.m.
RIVERVIEW TRAIL NATURE HIKE
Meet the naturalist at the office to go on a nature hike along the River view Trail. Length .5-2.5 miles; Difficulty easy-moderate. *ypp

6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
