Outdoor activities at Bluestone State Park encourage exploration of nature from nature hikes and fishing to unique activities like giant bubble making! Join Naturalist Jonathan Lipscomb as we adapt to distancing and have a great time participating. Youth, adults and families welcomed.

5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Fire Building
Learn how to start a fire without matches. We will also cover the basics of fire safety. Located at the shelter behind the activities building. *YPP
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Campfire
Join us at the shelter behind the activities building for a weekend campfire. Come to talk, sing, and enjoy the glow.
9:30 p.m. Astronomy
Meet at the campfire behind the activities building to view the night sky. We will be looking at the constellations and the moon. *YPP

2:30 p.m. Candle Making
Join Naturalist Jonathan beside the Meador Campground bathhouse to learn about how dip candles are made. These are the candles that were used in many areas up to the invention of the light bulb. This activity costs $1 per person. *YPP
5:00 p.m. Fishing
Meet at the fishing pier below the office for a couple hours of relaxing evening fishing.
7:00 p.m. Nature Hike
Join Naturalist Jonathan for a hike along the River View Trail. This 2-mile trail follows a stream with several waterfalls before continuing along the Bluestone River.

10:00 a.m. Fun in the Sun!
Join Bluestone Naturalist behind the activities building for a fun morning of giant bubbles and kites. Learn the science behind these classic favorites. Family oriented. This is sun kind of fun!
11:00 a.m. Friendship Bracelets
Meet behind the activities building to create basic friendship bracelets. These are $1 each.
1:00 p.m. Nature Hike
Let’s go for a hike along the Kanawha, Fayette Turnpike Trail and the Cabin Trail. This is around 1.5 miles. We will begin in front of the activities building.
Children age 12 and under must have an adult present at activities.
Fishing licenses are required for anyone 15 years and older.
Licenses may be purchased at www.wvfish.com and at local bait shops.
Masks are required for all activities in close proximity.
We appreciate your social responsibility when outdoors and when we are closer than six feet.
