Bluestone State Park offers a variety of family-friendly activities with social distancing in mind. Enjoy these free programs when visiting Bluestone State Park.

Thursday, June 18, 2020
12:00 p.m. Cicadas Talk
Meet under the pines behind the Bluestone activities building to learn about the brood IX cicadas that you have been hearing the last few weeks. *YPP

1:30 p.m. Spoon/Bowl carving demonstration
Meet at the shelter behind the activities building to learn about the basics of how spoons and bowls were carved before power tools. Types of wood. Heritage art. *YPP

Friday, June 19, 2020
5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Fire building
Learn how to build different types of fires that start easily. We will also cover the basics of fire safety. Located at the shelter behind the activities building. *YPP

7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Campfire
Join us at the shelter behind the activities building for a weekend campfire. Come to talk, sing, and enjoy the glow. We will keep social distance in mind and have a fun time.

Saturday, June 20, 2020 – WV Day
10:00 a.m. Nature Hike
Meet naturalist Jon Lipscomb for a 4-mile hike along the Big Pine Trail. This is a diverse hike covering several types of terrain and topography. Long pants, closed-toe shoes, and water recommended.

1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Compass Navigation
Join the naturalist behind the activities building to learn how to use a compass and map to navigate in the woods. We will also be making a map of the area to take home. *YPP

3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Camp Stoves
Meet behind the activities building to learn about different types of camp stoves and how to use them safely. Bring two empty aluminum cans and create a penny stove to take home.

2:00 p.m. Nature Hike
Take a relaxing hike along the cabin and rhododendron trails. We will meet at the office. 1mile loop

3:30 p.m. Turtle Talk
Meet behind the activities building to learn about the different types of turtles in our park and how you can help protect them. *YPP

Monday, June 22, 2020
10:00 a.m. Let’s Go Fly a Kite
Meet in the field behind the activities building to fly a kite and learn about how kites fly and different kite types. *YPP

1:00 p.m. Nature Hike
Hike along the River View trail. We will start at the park office for this 1-mile loop.

Children age 12 and under must have an adult present at activities.
Masks are recommended for all activities. Social distancing is observed.
