Things to do for free or a minimal materials fee are scheduled at Blackwater Falls. Open to participation by overnight visitors, local residents and day trippers. Join us.

Friday, June 14, 2019
Nature Center Open: 9:00 a.m.—9:00 p.m.

10:00 a.m. Raptors of West Virginia– visit the Nature Center to hear about some raptors that appear in West Virginia. Sorry, no live birds, but it is a lot of fun learning about hawks, owls and other birds of prey you may see in the wild in Tucker County and throughout West Virginia in your travels. About 1 hour. YPP

11:00 a.m. Eagle Claw Craft is at the Nature Center. You’ll paint a replica eagle claw keychain. Craft fee: $2.00 + tax.

12:30 p.m. Salamanders Slide Presentation is a throwback program about salamanders. About 1 hour. YPP

2:30 p.m. Natural Dyes- Learn about some history of natural dyes. About 30 minutes. 1 mile. YPP

3:00 p.m.—8:00 p.m. Tie Dye T-Shirt– Join recreation attendants Amie and Emily at the Nature Center to use colorful dyes to create your own design on a white or black T-Shirt. Be prepared to work with dye. Craft fee: 8.00/youth,10.00/Adult + tax. Heat transfers available for T-shirts at an additional cost of $3.00 + tax.

7:00 p.m. BINGO Join the recreation attendants Amie and Emily in Harold Walters Nature Center for this traditional game. Small novelty prize to winner(s). 1 hour.

8:00 p.m. Family Movie Night– Join the recreation staff in the Nature Center to journey back in time with a classic movie. Some old fashion soda and snacks available for purchase.

Saturday, June 15, 2019
Nature Center Open: 9:00 a.m.—9:00 p.m.

10:00 a.m. Tree Nature Film at the Nature Center is an interesting film about how trees “talk” to each other and other amazing facts about these silent sentinels. About 1 hour. YPP

11:00 a.m. Tree Cookies Craft– Join recreation attendant at the Nature Center to decorate a wood slice. 0.94 + tax

4:30 p.m. Wildflower Walk meets at the Nature Center side porch to scout the area for wildflowers. Hats and sunscreen may be helpful. 1 hour, 1/2 mile. YPP

5:30 p.m. Tree Stump Craft with Emily Crosten, recreation attendant, in Harold Walters Nature Center. Craft fee: 0.94¢ + tax

7:00 p.m. Campfire and Dutch Oven Cooking is at the campfire circle beside the Nature Center. Enjoy meeting other visitors, singing songs, playing games and perhaps make a tasty treat. Campfire may be moved indoors if raining at time of event. About 1 hour. YPP

8:00 p.m. Firefly Craft– Join recreation attendant, Emily Crosten, in the Nature Center to create a glowing firefly. Craft fee: $2.00 + tax.

9:00 p.m. Parking Lot Night Prowl meets at the Nature Center to explore the world of darkness with fun activities while traveling the parking lot and road. About 1 hour, 1/2 mile. YPP. Note: Please leave flashlights in your pocket for this program.

Sunday, June 16, 2019
Nature Center Open: 9:00 a.m.—4:30 p.m.

8:30 a.m. Beginners Bird Walk at Gentle Trail includes a stroll around the grounds to watch and listen for birds of the area. 1/2 mile or less. About 1 hour. YPP
