Friday Fun at Blackwater Falls

Enjoy nature activities when you visit Blackwater Falls State Park.

10:00 a.m. Into the Past
Join the park naturalist, Paulita, at the trailhead of Gentle Trail for an easy stroll to an overlook of Blackwater Falls while listening to a little history of the area. About 45 minutes. YPP

11:00 a.m. Rain Stick Craft
Olivia is your craft host. Join the fun and create your own rain stick. Craft fee: $3.00

11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Tie Dye at Park Intersection & Ramblin’ Ranger
TieDye! Craft fee is $10.00 for adult T-shirt, $8.00 youth T-shirt. Cash only. Email [email protected] for details.

1:45 p.m. Stream Safari
Kacey the Naturalist will meet you near the entrance to Blackwater Lodge Conference Center for a short stroll to discover what lives beneath the water of Shay Run. You will get wet! Please, wear sturdy shoes that can get wet. About 1 hour, some walking. YPP

3:30 p.m. Slithering Snakes
How many snakes call West Virginia home? What is the state reptile of West Virginia? Discover the answer to these questions and more in this program presented by park naturalist, Paulita. Live Eastern Rat snake highlighted during program. About 1 hour. YPP

4:30 p.m. Native Bees
Join the summer naturalist, Kacey, to learn about some of our native mason bees then create a mason bee home. Craft fee: $3.00 YPP

7:00 p.m. Lightning Bugs
Join summer naturalist, Kacey, to learn how to identify insects, their importance and a little more about fireflies. Create a glowing firefly during the program. Craft fee: $2.00 YPP

Blackwater Falls Nature Center is open from 10:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. All activities meet at the nature center unless noted otherwise.
