Enjoy nature-based activities and programs when you visit Blackwater Falls State Park. Planned activities meet at the Nature Center unless otherwise indicated. Open to the public.
Monday, June 21, 2021
Visit the nature center between 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
10:00 a.m. Nature Journaling
This is an introduction into recording your thoughts, emotions, ideas and observations through words and drawings. Creative supplies provided. No experience necessary. Great opportunity to preserve those memories. About one hour. Meet on side porch of nature center – inclement weather moves activity indoors. YPP
12:00 p.m. Intro to Native Bees
Join the summer naturalist, Kacey, to learn about native bees and their advantage over honeybees. Afterwards, make a mason bee house. Craft fee: $3.00. About 1 hour. YPP
1:00 p.m. Disc Golf Basics
Join the summer naturalist, Inza, to learn the basics of this outdoor game…maybe even play a few holes with her! About 45 minutes.
2:30 p.m. Nature Photography
Grab your camera or phone to join summer naturalist, Kacey, to stroll around the area taking pictures of plants, insects and perhaps wildlife. About 1 hour. YPP
3:45 p.m. Suncatcher Craft with summer naturalist, Kacey. Craft fee varies from $1.00 to $8.00.
4:00 p.m. Changing Forest Walk
A delightful walk along Balsam Fir Trail takes a look at the effects of man and nature on the forest. Walk about 1.5 miles, 70 minutes. YPP

Visit the nature center from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
10:00 a.m. Beginners Bird Walk– Enjoy a short walk around the area looking for feathered friends. Naturalist Inza is your host. About 1 hour, 1 mile. YPP
11:30 a.m. Fern Frolic
Inza leads you on a stroll along a section of Balsam Fir Trail to learn about some of the ferns found on the park and how to identify them. Some fern allies also covered during this walk. About one hour, 1 mile. YPP
12:00 p.m. Herb Garden Craft
Join attendant, Brittany, to hear about some herbs then create an herb garden for your home. Craft fee: $3.00
1:30 p.m. Summer Wildflower Walk
Take a short easy walk around the area to look for summer wildflowers and how to identify them. Meet Inza at the Nature Center. About 1 hour, 1 mile or less walking. YPP
2:30 p.m. Leaf and Flower Press Craft
Brittany welcomes one and all to meet at the nature center to learn about plants, then create a press to take home. Craft fee: $2.00. YPP
4:00 p.m. Backyard Bugs Nature Film
Sit back and relax with Brittany while watching an exciting film about critters you may find in your yard. About 30 minutes. YPP

12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Tie Dye Fun
It’s time to create your own souvenir with this fun family friendly craft. Craft fee: $10.00 per adult T-shirt, $8.00 per youth T-shirt.
2:30 p.m. Trees are Terrific
Why are trees so terrific? Discover some answers to that question with summer with Inza and park naturalist, Paulita. There is a little walking with this program. It is all about tree ID and their importance in the environment. About one hour. YPP
4:00 p.m. Tree Art
Join the naturalist Paulita and crafty Brittany to create a unique wall art using a tree cookie, torch and paint. Craft fee: $3.00. Limited to 12 participants. Please, sign up at Nature Center beginning at 10:00 a.m.
5:00 p.m. How to Hike Safely
Learn more about hiking and being outdoors. Join us for a discussion about how to hike in a safe manner to optimize your hiking experience. About 30 minutes. YPP
7:30 p.m. Spark the Fire
Learn how to make fire. Learn the art of sparking a fire using char cloth and “birds nest.” About one hour. YPP
9:00 p.m. Disappearing Stars
Join the naturalists Paulita and Inza to learn How You Can Save the Stars. Afterwards, we will discuss some constellations and attempt to look at stars with a telescope. About 1 hour. YPP
