Birding Around the Sun at Kanawha State Forest

Learn about birding, bird ecology and why birds are important parts of the natural environment. Hike and explore Spotted Salamander and Polly Hollow trails at Kanawha State Forest through the seasons.

Meet 15 minutes before we embark. 9:00 a.m. Spotted Salamander Trail is an easy quarter mile walk that meets at the Nature Center (Camp Kanawha). 11:00 a.m. Polly Hollow and Wildcat Ridge Trails are 2 miles, moderate to difficult and meet at Polly Hollow.

Event is free to everyone. Stay as long as you like. Dress according to hike difficulty and weather. Bring water, a snack and binoculars. A few pairs of binoculars are available to borrow. We hope to exceed our previous year’s count of 65 species, and celebrate at the year’s end by looking back on our adventures.
