Be a Monarch Butterfly Scout

Find Monarch butterflies at Cacapon Resort State Park by participating in Cacapon’s Monarch Project beginning at 8:30 a.m. The pollinator zone field is the site for a citizen science study in cooperation with Monarch Joint Venture nationwide assessment of WVs state butterfly.

Volunteers and visitors should meet at the nature center for a quick review of the overall process. Volunteers should plan on 3 hours of time to complete the work and wear sturdy shoes or summer hiking boots. Youth volunteers up to ages 16 get Young People for Parks (YPP) activity credit. All volunteers helping with the Cacapon Monarch Study will receive a Cacapon State Park – Monarch Scout patch and certificate of participation. Volunteers opting to assist with additional survey work on other dates will receive a t-shirt at those opportunities.

Chaney asks volunteers to contact her if interested in participating in the Cacapon Monarch Study scheduled on July 26. Contact [email protected] or by phone at 304-258-1022, Dial 1, then enter ext. 5209.
