Bats and Caves Awareness Day at Cass

July 6, 2018 @ 9:01 pm

Bats are amazing creatures that play an important role in controlling insects and pollinating plants. They are not the evil monsters depicted in horror movies. Come to the Town of Cass on July 7 and lean more about these amazing mammals.

West Virginia has over 4,000 natural caves. They range from very small ones to the 46-mile Friars Hole Cave System. In addition to learning about bats (and other cave-dwelling animals), there will be information on how caves are formed and their importance in the natural world.

Event displays will include a simulated bat cave designed to introduce kids of all ages (and interested adults) to the cave environment where bats are at home. The “cave” will have a biologist to help you learn about bats and explain how bats live in the darkness, why they are very beneficial animals, and why they should be protected and not feared.

There is no charge for the bat cave and everyone is welcome to attend. The cave and other exhibits will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park.
