Plenty to see and do at Cacapon awaits you during your visit. The nature center is typically opne from 9:15 AM to 4:45 PM. Join Naturalist Valerie Chaney, the summer naturalist team, and Cacapon Volunteer for these planned activities.

Learn all about the life cycle of a monarch butterfly and tour our monarch waystation YPP

1:00 PM Creation of Cacapon
Discover Camp Morgan and the CCC boys who built this park nearly 85 years ago.
Take a short walk through the park, followed by a film on the 1930’s Civilian Conservation Corps. YPP

10:00 AM Fishing 101
Meet at the Nature Center then head to the lake! Learn how to tie a knot, then cast
out! Fishing poles and bait provided or bring your own! YPP

11:30 AM All About Bears
How fast can black bears run? Do you know what to do if you see a bear? Join park
naturalist to learn some fun bear facts and important ways to keep them safe in the wild! YPP

4:00 PM Meet and Greet Cacapon
Meet the Park Summer Naturalist at the lodge to answer any general park questions you may have or find out what amazing recreation and nature activities Cacapon has to offer. Welcome to Cacapon Resort State Park!

7:00 PM Irish Road Bowling
Come out for a fun Irish tradition established as an official West Virginia sport (WVIRB.com), rolling a cannon ball on a designed course.

8:00 PM Cacapon Campfire
Join in the fun of campfire songs, stories, and of course marshmallows!

9:30 AM Honeybee Film
Meet at the Nature Center for a short film. YPP

11:00 AM Honeybee Hive
Join free presentation by David Martz owner of Double D’s Bees and learn all about bee keeping, bee products, and see a live beehive! Meet at Park Gazebo, near nature center.

2:00 PM Honeybee Tie-Dye
Join us at the nature center to make tie dye t-shirts. $10 Cacapon t-shirts for purchase at nature center.

3:30 PM Honeybee Story and Craft
Meet at the nature center to learn about bees! YPP

7:30-9:00 PM Cacapon Trivia
Join us on the outside patio of the newly opened North Lodge. Fun trivia & prizes for all ages!

10:00 AM Morning on the Mountain
Meet the summer naturalist on Cacapon mountain overlook, 5 miles past nature center. Take in the view and learn more about park’s history and geology. This is a awesome view and on a clear day you may see four states.

1:00PM Fern Craft
Enjoy a fern nature craft at the nature center. YPP

3:30PM Awesome O ’Possum
Learn some fun facts followed by a craft. YPP

Your child’s guide to the outdoors! These packs are available to rent for free! They
have field guides, tools, and activities to entertain!

Young People for Parks (YPP)
Young People for Parks (YPP) is a nature based activity program conducted at multiple state parks throughout the summer months. Geared for youth ages 6-16, participants attend and participate in a minimum of three designated programs to achieve YPP status
