Activities at Cacapon

As wintry days approach, find time to enjoy nature activities at Cacapon or to take a hike. Activities begin at the nature center unless indicated otherwise.

FRIDAY, November 1

Nature Center Hours: 12:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

2:00 p.m. WV Tree ID Walk Learn some fun facts about WV trees and basic steps on how to identify some common trees!

7:00 p.m. Special Program West Virginia Invasive Insects, Fungi and Pathogens
Join WV DNR biologist Anne Wakeford for a free presentation in the social room at the lodge. Invasive Insects and fungi have impacted agricultural crops, killed native trees, and are beginning to impact amphibians and reptiles. In this talk, participants will learn some of the most common crop insect pests, tree insect pests, fungi and insect tree diseases, fungi tree diseases, and amphibian, reptile, and mammal fugal and viral diseases.

1:00 p.m. Ridge Trail Ramble Enjoy this 1.5 mile hike while Witch Hazel is in bloom.

SUNDAY, November 3

Daylight Saving Time Ends

10:00 a.m. WV Morning Melodies Take a stroll around Cacapon’s lake to learn some common sounds. Binoculars provided.

1:00 p.m. Camp Morgan Take a short stroll to discover the impact of the Civilian Conservation Corps on Cacapon.

MONDAY, November 4

10:00 a.m. Tai Chi This class will help increase balance, flexibility, and focus on connection to mind, body, & spirit. Held at the Lodge. (1 hour)

All Hiking/Mountain Biking Trails Closed

TAURID Meteor Showers (Peak November 5-12) Take a look into the night skies. Did you know the Taurid meteors are referred to the “Halloween Fireballs?” This is due to their streaks appearing more yellow or orange.

WEDNESDAY, November 6

11:00 a.m. The CCC Boys: A West Virginia Legacy The CCC boys left a legacy that can still be enjoyed all over WV in the forests they planted and parks they helped to build. Meet the Naturalist at the Nature Center to watch a movie into this WV legacy. (30 minutes)

THURSDAY, November 7

1:00 p.m. Spirit of Cacapon Meet at the Nature Center to take a short walk and discover how the CCC boys…the Civilian Conservation Corps left its mark on Cacapon.

FRIDAY, November 8

Nature Center Closed

7:00 p.m. Ironwood Wolves return for a free presentation at the Bath House. Meet Luther a real wolf pup ambassador.

SATURDAY, November 9

Nature Center Open: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

11:00 a.m. WV Wildlife Enjoy learning about some common WV wildlife by seeing and touching real wildlife pelts!

11:00 a.m. Tree ID Walk Take a short walk around the picnic area to learn more fun facts about common trees, and followed by a craft.
