Flinderation Tunnel 🔦

Salem, WV

Flinderation Tunnel #2 in Salem is an abandoned early-20th-century B&O Railroad tunnel that once connected the towns of Salem and Clarksburg. Nicknamed the “Flinderation Tunnel” for the hardships faced during its construction, the structure is rumored to be haunted by the spirits of those who built it. Now a landmark along the North Bend Rail Trail, its dark, graffiti-covered interior draws paranormal lovers.

Enjoy scenic hiking, bike riding, fishing, geocaching, ATV riding and so much more while you’re exploring the rail trail.

Bigfoot Statue (Elk River Trail) 🔎

Elk River Trail, WV

Along the Elk River Trail between Ivydale and Duck, a towering 10.5-foot, 1,800-pound Bigfoot statue stands with authority – as if guarding the forest. Crafted by Clay County students, the sculpture pays homage to the mysterious creature. Find this eerie sentinel at Mile Marker 47 on the Elk River Trail, just two miles upstream from the Ivydale Trailhead.

Silver Run Tunnel #19 (North Bend Rail Trail) 🔦

An unsettling stretch of the North Bend Rail Trail, the Silver Run Tunnel has long captured the imagination of locals and travelers alike. Legend has it that the tunnel is haunted by the spectral figure of a woman in white. You may hear echoes with unexplained sounds and spot fleeting shadows that vanish into the darkness. Do you have the guts to make a run for the tunnel?
