Celebrate Fall at West Virginia State Parks

The iconic Glade Creek Grist Mill is one of the most photographed locations in West Virginia. Over the years, this spot has graced the pages of numerous calendars and coffee table books. The rustic centerpiece of Babcock State Park is particularly beautiful in October, when the weathered structure is framed in warm autumn colors. You can photograph the mill from several angles if you're willing to explore the area. You can even snap a photo from the park’s main parking lot.

Pipestem Resort State Park is a great place in southern West Virginia to see fall colors on display.

No matter where you are, there’s something special — even magical — about fall. Cool weather replaces summer’s heat and humidity. Green leaves turning before your eyes, taking on breathtaking hues of gold, fiery orange and red. Crisp air carrying the smell of campfires, and with it, the prospect of melting s’mores.

A great way to celebrate the arrival of autumn is spending quality time in nature at a West Virginia state park or forest. Come for the day and enjoy hiking and other park activities. Or, stay for the night. All lodge parks offer “Book Now” lodging reservations. Several other parks and forests offer cabin rentals.

The official start of fall is Friday, Sept. 22, and many state parks will offer fun, fall activities to help celebrate the changing season. No matter how you decide to celebrate the season, we hope you will join us at West Virginia State Parks. Here are a few fall upcoming events with fun for the whole family.
